2014 was a year of storytelling; a year of learning what stories I love to hear and see and what ways I love to tell those stories through my images. What struck me most this year was the stories of small moments. In the past few years we’ve had the opportunity to witness and experience a lot of big moments, both in our lives and in the lives of our clients. 2014 was about seeing that sized down. It was about learning to embed myself in the everyday and be aware enough about the people and nature around me to capture images that tell the story of small moments.
Years ago I read the novel Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. It was one of the most formative books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading and re-reading and reading again. It is incredibly well-written and while I enjoy the book in its entirety there is one sentence that struck me the first time I read it and I continue to think on it regularly.
These are among the handful of words I strive to live my life by…
“There are a thousand thousand reasons to live this life, every one of them sufficient.”
Here are some of my thousand thousand reasons from 2014.
